The History Of the Sorocaba Zoo begins in 1916 , where today is the Frei Baraúna Square , the Old Forum . Currently considered one of the most complete in Latin America , already in 1993 was chosen by popular vote , as a symbol of Sorocaba . It stands out for your goals that rely on providing healthy recreation and contact with nature , environmental education programs , collaboration with research , generating knowledge about behavior, reproduction and physiology, and working with the national and global conservation effort through plans management , both in captivity and in the national wildlife natureza.Os animals ( 70 % ) are the strong point of the Zoo , with special attention to those threatened with extinção.Novos enclosures , opened in 2004 , incorporated the most modern display techniques such as ditches to primates, an aviary where birds fly around the visitor and large glass panels that allow seamless viewing of otters , reptiles , and bears.
